Helping the poor not communism

Pope thinks we think helping the poor is Communism

Pope Francis declared that “land, housing and work are increasingly unavailable to the majority’ of the world’s population,” but said “If I talk about this, some will think that the Pope is communist.”

Communism and its little brother socialism are the cause of much of the world’s poverty.  That is why it’s amazing to me that the Pope thinks he’ll be called a communist for talking about helping the poor.  Capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty than any other government policy.  Communism has created more poor people than anything in the history of man.

So count me among those who are confused by the Pope’s statement.  You are not a communist for using your own money and influence to help the poor.  Catholic Charities do a wonderful job helping the poor around the world through donations and missionary work.  Where they get into trouble is taking “government money” for that purpose.

First off, there is no such thing as “government money.”  “Government money” all comes from the people or a free enterprise entity.  This is why I have repeatedly written on this page and to my bishop and pastor that I would like to one time in my life hear from the pulpit during a sermon that charity IS NOT voting Dope so that they will raise your neighbor’s taxes and redistribute it according to how they see fit.  That isn’t charity.  It’s government theft.  Reaching into your own pocket and giving to Catholic Charities or to the food bank or a thousand other deserving charities is charity or even more charitable is giving your time over to one those charities.  I cannot demand Lex jr. go work at the food bank then claim that have done my share.

This is what Dopes, particularly the hippster Hollywood swells think of as “charity”, working for Dope candidates so that taxes will rise to help the poor, or improve education, or end racism.  But those conditions continue after 50 years of Dopes persistently beating the drum to vote Dope to end them.  Fool me once shame on you.  Fool me for 50 years and I must be a lockstep Dope voter.

Well to wrap this up, no Pope Francis you’re not a communist for wanting to help the poor.  If you reach into your own pocket for that purpose, you’re probably a conservative capitalist.  But if you insist that the government take your neighbor’s money for wasteful, unnecessarily duplicative redistribution scams whose main purpose is to the grow the government and create dependency rather than “help the poor”, then yeah, you’re probably a communist.

 Lex responds to pro-abort editorial

The local fish wrap reprinted this load of crap on abortion from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.  Having nearly given up on battling the Journal Gazette's editorial staff, I took a minute and sent them the following:

If a picture is worth a 1,000 words, in the case of abortion, an ultrasound picture is worth 10,000 words.  Whatever else the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette thinks is responsible for the “erosion of abortion laws,” the undeniable fact is that only the most obtuse among us could deny that what an ultrasound picture shows is a baby.  All of the canards spouted in the PP-G piece about “choice,” “women’s health” and “reproductive freedom” are trumped by the fact that what 99.9% of us see in an ultrasound is a baby not a choice.

That fact cannot be changed by the 40 year old tortured logic of 7 Supreme Court Justices anymore than slavery or separate but equal could be justified because they too were once thought to be the unassailable law of the land.

Support for abortion is fading not so much because of pronouncements from of an unelected and unaccountable judiciary or even because of laws passed in the legislature.  Support for abortion is fading because, like bleeding of patients in the 18th century was once thought to be “state of the art medicine”, science is exposing abortion for what it is – barbaric.  That is why the pro-abort side is forced into using euphemisms like “choice,” “women’s health,” “reproductive freedom,” etc. to describe the heinous procedure.  They dare not call abortion what it is: the killing of a baby with all of its inestimable human potential.
