Declared "gun zones" safest

“Gun-free zone” my dying azz
Sadly, Ft. Hood has again been the site of a soldier on soldier shooting spree.  What is so baffling to me about this latest spree is that Ft. Hood is a “gun-free zone.”  Think that one through, a US military base as a “gun-free zone.”  Wow.  Mind bending.  The geniuses who came up with that one are exploring the feasibility of making construction sites “hammer free zones” because of the mayhem that particular tool plays on construction workers’ thumbs.

So what was the perp – Ivan Lopez – doing with a gun?  Seems to me if he were intent on killing people on Ft. Hood – a declared and duly posted “gun-free zone” – he would be required to do so using a knife, bat, bomb or some other means that had not been declared a “free [of] zone” on Ft. Hood.  By using a gun in a “gun-free zone,” Lopez has made a mockery of the effectiveness of signs displaying a handgun with a red slash through it to deter homicidal maniacs.  Good God man!  Have you no respect for the signage?

When Army spokesman, LtGen Mark Milley, was asked if the latest shooting spree might lead to a change in policy so that soldiers on Ft. Hood can be armed to defend themselves, Milley did not indicate any support for changing the “gun-free zone” policy.  Makes sense.  These incidents only happen every four years.  The death toll is dropping.  So why overreact?

However, Milley did show interest in re-evaluating the way cars coming on post are searched.  YGBSM.  Does he seriously suppose that cars can be searched in such detail to discover a handgun that someone is determined to hide?  No one will ever get to work.  By the time the MPs are done searching their car it’ll be time to go home.  But hey while they’re looking for guns, MPs can also look for someone smuggling a ham sandwich on base on meatless Mondays.

The answer of course is contained in John Lott’s book title “More Guns Less Crime.”  Arm a certain number of officers and Staff NCOs with both open and concealed carry weapons. That will change the calculus for potential shooters.  Oh, and double the number and size of those highly effective “gun-free zone” signs.  Yeah, that’s the ticket.

People rarely go on shooting sprees at declared "gun zones" such as NRA meetings, police stations or gun shops.  Why is that?

Fallon nails Robertscare
If it’s mandatory, shouldn’t about 200 million people have signed up for Robertscare by now?  Jimmy Fallon gets it right on The Tonight Show:

That’s right, the White House said that it surpassed its goal for people enrolled in ObamaCare. It’s amazing what you can achieve when you make something mandatory and fine people if they don't do it. And then keep extending the deadline for months. It’s like a Cinderella story. It’s just a beautiful thing. You make everyone do it. Isn’t it great how many people do it? But if you still haven't enrolled, you might have to pay a penalty called the individual shared responsibility payment, which is 1% of your salary. Then Americans said, ‘Man, good thing I don't have a job.

Homosexual woman randomly attacked
Hmmm, witnesses?  When a black “man” does this to a guy minding his own business walking up the sidewalk, it’s called a “random” isolated incident – irrespective of how many times such incidents occur or the fact that 99% of the victims are white and 99% of the perps are black.  Using that logic, I’d have to say that if this incident in fact occurred, it’s a random act of violence.  Move along.  There’s nothing to see here.

From the Griffin....
I renewed my CCW permit yesterday. Completed the 3 page form, showed old permit, drivers license, social security card, and was finger printed. Brunhilda at the sheriff's glared me over the entire time. I made no quick moves and never turned my back on her. As I waited I read the back of my social sec card. It says at the very top, " This card belongs to the SSA and you must return it if we ask for it". If it is theirs I wish they would quit losing it. Anyway, it also says, "DO NOT carry it with you". I have asked the wife to carry mine, and I will carry hers. And if the SSA demands I return it I guess I will drive the wife to the SSA office so she can carry the card for me.
