Leftist control the language

Yesterday, a comment in the comments’ section of the post under by Infidel made me drop my shovel and think.  OK it was the summer heat and humidity and the backbreaking nature of stump removal that really made me drop my shovel, but once dropped, my thoughts turned to the Infidel’s comment.

Several years ago, I ran into an old high school acquaintance. Turns out, he’s pastor of a church here in Ft. Wayne.  I told him I’d stop in sometime and listen to him preach.  He warned me that the church was a very “liberal” church.  I recall as if it were 10 minutes ago replying, “I’m a liberal.  I’m an old fashion liberal.” By that I meant that I believe in individual freedoms unfettered by an overreaching and onerous government.

I don’t know when that noble definition of “liberal” was high-jacked by leftist loons who turned it on its ear.  I recall in back in the 60’s “liberal” stood for revolving door justice, expanding welfare, losing wars, free love, drugs and the demand for government intervention into every aspect of our lives.  Soon the word “liberal” was another way of describing someone as a kook.

It’s a shame.  Liberal started out to mean an ascent to liberty for man.  It then devolved into advocating for government control of man through endless government programs and regulation.  “Liberal” became a toxic term.  So much so the left abandon it.

The Infidel is correct.  The term of art these days to describe leftist, and sadly McCain Republicans is “progressive.”  Who doesn’t want to be known as progressive?  What’s the opposite of progressive - stationary, staid, or regressive?  In politics it is better to be thought of as moving forward than back, don’t you think?  After all the root of the word progressive is progress.  Who can reasonably be against progress?

But the end game always seems to be the same as the modern liberals, more government control.  2,700 pages of Robertscare followed by 20,000 pages of regulation is progress?  No one in their right mind could make that case.  But it is more government control of the masses.  The NSA spygate scandal is progress?  No. It’s a giant step backward for the liberty of Americans.  Yet pols on both sides are defending it with vigor.

Blanket legalization of 11 million criminals inside the country is progress?  No. But we’re being told by both sides that it is step we must take.  It is not.  Secure the border and verify employment.  Those two steps would reduce the number of illegals by ¾.

Changing the terms of the debate is a leftist trick.  Homosexuals aren’t homosexuals.  They are “gay.”  Who can be against gay?  Killing a baby isn’t murder.  It’s “choice.”  Who doesn’t want choice?  Ignoring the 2nd Amendment isn’t unconstitutional.  It’s “common sense.”  Who can be against common sense?  Global warming isn’t unsettled science at best or a leftist hoax at worst.  It settled science and the debate is over.  Well if it’s settled science, what’s to debate?  For 5,000 years Marriage had a clear definition.  Today, no one can define the term.  That’s progress?

The left high-jacked the noble idea of liberal government, bastardized and destroyed it in the same way no one ever wants to have a “gay old time” any more.

From The Griffin.
Individual rights do not transfer to the federal government. They just disappear. Individual rights are not created by government as they are inherent, and therefore cannot be transferred. The loss of significant individual rights will not stand in the long term. The loss of all individual rights ends the great experiment.

If the state or town in which you reside is not suitable then move to one that better suits you. That has been our culture and history. If you do not like your job then go get a different one. Find the place you want and do not let a government demand any other place to you. If all the states and towns are exactly the same, and you dislike where you reside, then there is nowhere to go. You will then demand that place, or state, be created. If you allow the progressives to take your neighbors land, then note they will eventually get to you. Local power, presided over by local individuals, has been eroding for years and especially in the last 5 years. Obamacare and your local doctor. Washington DOE mandates on the school down the street. DOMA, gun rights, abortion, and property rights, are a few of the efforts of the King-like attempts of liberals/progressives now in power to usurp our individual rights and override local governance. The balance is always being pushed, and the needed push back will grow to overcome the imbalance.

Liberals are then not espousing personal liberty, and progressives are not leading individual progress, and the words of those championing political correctness are translating pragmatism into a soothing propaganda. As to the labels of Conservative, Liberal, or Progressive…I would say I know when individual rights are being challenged and reject those that attempt it. Regardless of the label. Once our rights are gone there is nothing left to consider except their return and full reinstatement.
