Condi's real mission in the Middle East

What is Codi up to? Is she in the Middle East trying to achieve a ceasefire or is she telling the diplomatic world that the US is quite happy to have Israel wipe out terror groups in its backyard. Hopefully it is the later. The MSM, no doubt will paint the president as “unengaged” if Condi’s visit doesn’t produce an immediate ceasefire. An immediate cease fire in no way supports America’s war on terror or long-term US interests in the region. So why send Condi?

Well perhaps Condi’s real mission is to let the “leadership” in region know that the US supports Israel and a new paradigm in Lebanon - a paradigm that doesn’t include Syrian and Iranian meddling there. If Condi’s mission was to inform the region that the US would not reign in the Israelis until Hezbollah is a shadow of its former self and to get used to the idea of a new, free and democratic Lebanon that would be a huge success. But sans a ceasefire, the MSM will declare the trip an utter failure no matter how far long-term US interests in the region and the war on terror are advanced.

Meanwhile, like a babe in the woods, Koffi Annan continues to cry for an immediate ceasefire – from both sides. That smacks of the moral equivalency we’ve grown way too accustomed to. I shoot hundreds of missiles into your backyard and kidnap your children, so you bust down my door to get your kids back and the police show up and tell us both to go home and stop fighting.

Koffi ought to be pressuring Hezbollah and the Palestinians for the immediate and unconditional release of Israel’s citizens. Unfortunately, the best hope for the US is to hope that Hezbollah remains too foolish to let the soldiers go so that Israel can continue to pound them to dust for a few more weeks.

Koffi managed to step up pressure on Israel by saying the Israelis deliberately targeted a UN outpost yesterday. That is an absurd comment and is just one many indications how little this little man knows about warfare. I’ll tell you what was deliberate, UN “peacekeepers” raping African refugees, UN officials up to and including Koffi stealing money from the oil for food program, and way too many more scandles to cover here.

But wait there’s more. The leader of our other great ally in the region President Maliki of Iraq is due to address congress this morning. Democrats are boycotting Maliki’s speech because he has not come down sufficiently hard on Hezbollah. Fine, a moment of moral clarity in party heretofore devoid of any should be applauded. If Maliki wanted to get the Democrats back on board he should take to podium in the Capitol Building and blame the whole mess on Bush. You know if bush had talked to Yassar Arafat, if Bush would have condemned Israel early on for trying secure its border with a wall, if Bush insisted on an end to the Israeli occupation of Gaza and Lebanon – oops Israel end its occupation of Lebanon years ago and pulled out of Palestinian territory as well. Hmmm, well anyway, if Maliki would just blame it all on George Bush, Chuck Schumer, ever the political oppotunist and showboat, would be knocking people over to get the microphone to praise Maliki.
