Schools and Hollywood

What is going on in our public schools? PC bovine excrement for the most part and that’s the way the NEA likes it. And don’t think they are about to let anyone challenge their world view. Cobblestone magazine is aimed at children ages 9-14 and is distributed nationwide to schools and libraries. Its latest issue features a cover photo of a US soldier. Oh the humanity!

But as vulgar as the picture of US soldier is to today’s “education” establishment, what’s inside the magazine has sent the namby pamby, I’m OK – you’re OK, 2 + 2 equals whatever you think it equals “education” crowd into convulsions. The current issue of Cobblestone contains articles on what it's like to go through boot camp, a rundown of Army weapon systems and a detailed description of Army career opportunities.

But wait it gets worse. The issue also contains classroom guides which suggest teachers invite a soldier, Army recruiter or veteran to speak to their classes and ask students whether they might want to join the Army someday. Pass the salts. Get me to the fainting couch. I don’t think I can take anymore. Soldiers, recruiters and veterans in our classrooms? This has to violate the first amendment in some manner.

This issue of Cobblestone has sent the appropriately named Francis Lunney into a tizzy "Some of the teachers were like, 'Holy cow, look at this,'" whined the sixth-grade English teacher in Hudson, Mass. A call to action, this cannot stand. Lunney the loon quickly called the publishing company to complain. He told The Boston Globe that the guides looked exactly like the official recruiting material distributed at high schools. And…the problem with that is?
The Loonmeister no doubt has spent endless classroom hours preaching, tolerance, open mindedness and diversity - unless, of course it has to do with young people serving a cause greater than themselves through selfless sacrifice defending their nation in its armed forces. The Loonster is a typical do as say not as do lib - a BS merchant masquerading as an “educator.”
Then there is Hollywood. Supporters of Cindy Sheehan, the woman who is making a living off her son’s death in Iraq, are taking up a hunger strike. Some, including Shaun Penn, Susan Sarandon, novelist Alice Walker and actor Danny Glover, are only partially dedicated the anti-war movement and will only commit to join a “rolling fast”, a relay in which 2,700 activists pledge to refuse food for at least 24 hours, and then hand over to a comrade.

What a great idea. How about a rolling 10 Commandments? I’ll follow them on Sun, Mon, Wed, and Fri. Anyone want to take up the slack for me on Tue, Thur and Sat? I also advocate rolling sobriety, over eating, tax code compliance, and work schedules.
