Expand the war on terror

Well, well, well, imagine my surprise when I learned that Iran and Syria are behind the latest attacks against Israel. Any regular reader of this page knows that Lex has advocated expanding our war against ITF into Syria and Iran. These two troublemakers have been assisting in the killing of US servicemen since the end of traditional combat. We know it. They know it. The world knows it. But we have tried to find a “diplomatic” solution. We never learn.

Now these two bozos are stirring up trouble with Israel. Being spineless bastards, they use their surrogate troublemakers in the region, Hamas and Hizbollah to do the dirty work. Israel knows diplomacy with the devil never works so has taken a more reasonable approach and kicked the excrement out of the two of them. For standing up to terrorists, Israel has been condemned by the Security Council and other worthless, know nothing, do nothing, be nothing entities, like France. Now Israel is upping the ante by telling Syria and Iran, “you’re next.”

Meanwhile, fragile democracies in Lebanon and Iraq hang somewhere in the balance. Bush’s big idea in the Middle East, democracy, is in peril. It seems an expansion of the war is in order. We know from our experience in Vietnam that it is difficult to defeat an insurgency when it is supported, funded and supplied from sanctuaries outside the country. The US might consider an Iraqi division under cover of US airpower crossing ten or so miles into Syria to root out the terrorist bases that Syria just can’t seem to find.

Like all armchair generals, proposing an idea is different from executing it and accepting responsibility for the inevitable unintended consequences. Something dear to these two creeps needs to be held at risk. Something tells me, when it’s their own backsides on the line, they will be more cooperative.
