Fred's In

Anyone who watched the Fox News “debate” from NH last night knows why Fred skipped the event. Eight candidates swapping 30 and 60 second sound bites on their positions on the Iraq war, immigration, gun control and a possible war with Iran was too surreal to imagine. The only thing missing from the scene was a talking snowman and laugh track to accompany Ron Paul’s comments. Then the dopes in the coffee shops blame the candidates for not offering more detail on their positions. How can you sum up a hypothetical question on whether or not you’ll bomb Iran in 60 seconds? Note to NH coffee shop goers: It’s not the candidates. It’s the inane “debate” format!
Fred was the clear winner by not showing up. Among those who attended, McCain didn’t do himself any harm. Now if he can just get past that whole “screw the First Amendment” and “the only way to stop criminal illegal entry into our country is to make that activity legal” problem he has, his campaign can get into high gear. Oh yeah, he’ll need a John Kerry speech about how he opposed the Bush tax cuts before he was for them. Then he’ll need a nifty answer about how his First Amendment strangling campaign finance reform bill failed to prevent Hillary Clinton and other Dems from getting millions in crooked cash from a convicted felon from China who, like most Clinton finance people, is now on the lam.
Fred got more exposure, got more time to articulate his thoughts and generated more buzz in ten minutes on Leno than all eight candidates combined managed in 90 minutes on Fox News. Fred’s ten minutes on Leno pointed up the idiocy of having eight candidates talking to each other in sound bites for 90 minutes. He even advocated one on one or small group “discussions” rather than the current dopey “debate” format.
And now the obvious - Paul, Tancrato, Hunter and Brownback ought to do themselves, the party and the nation a favor and bow out gracefully.
