How to win in Nov

A three pronged winner for Reps in the fall:

First, hit the Dems and Libs in the face on energy independence. Gas is likely to reach $4 a gallon sometime during the summer. The Dems want to tax the companies who find, refine and deliver the gas to Americans on every street corner into oblivion. Even the simpleton at this keyboard knows that taxing something will cause the cost of that something to rise and supply to fall.

Shrillda Beast wants to go further. She wants to establish an extra constitutional “fair profits” review board. B-HO, who calls the federal gas tax holiday “pandering” and would only result in $30 in the tax payer’s pocket, wants to pander in a bigger more expensive way offering $1,000 tax credit to the “middle class.”

Well, I for one will take the $30. That ought to be just enough to off-set the rising cost of arugula at the whole foods store.

But all of this, gas tax holidays, taxing an oil company’s “windfall profits”, government “taking profits”, and give-a-ways in tax credits to off-set gas prices, all miss the point. The point is that gas prices are high because of WORLDWIDE DEMAND.

Nothing currently being proposed is going to bring one drop of oil/energy to the table. Here’s the plan:

Short term: Drill in ANWR and off the continental shelf
Mid term: Build more refineries and nuclear power plants
Long term: Uh don’t know, the next big thing. Let’s just call it R&D for renewable (NOT food) sources

Two, stay on the offence in the war on Islamo-Terror-Fascists. If Dems want to have an argument about Gitmo and “torture” lets have it. If Dems want to close Gitmo, say fine let’s put them all in NY or IL. If Dems don’t want to make the ITF uncomfortable enough to tell us where the next bomb is going to go off, shout to the electorate that Reps would get that information and save American lives. Seems to me most Americans would want to know if they or our troops were about to get blown up.

Fold border security and fences into this argument. Frame it as a national security issue. This is an 80-20 issue in favor of securing the border. Throw in a federal English only rule, another 80-20 issue and watch the Rep numbers soar.

Last, cut taxes. I laughed out loud when B-HO said he’d raise capital gains taxes. The interviewer informed B-HO that government revenues actually go through the roof every time the capital gains taxes are CUT. B-HO got that deer in the head lights look and said it’s a matter of fairness.

This is the Lib answer to everything. If Prius drivers are being crushed under SUVs in alarming numbers, the Lib answer is for everyone to be as vulnerable as Prius drivers NOT making the Prius safer.

Well there you have a clear path to victory. Too bad the Reps have candidate that thinks a three month holiday from the federal gas tax is an energy policy and that closing Gitmo is a good idea and that it’s un-American to make the ITF uncomfortable to save American lives. But hey, he’s onboard with capital gains cuts, so I guess he’s our man.
