Time for Tomlinson and CPB to go

The perfect visual for what the Democrat Party has become. MA Dem Rep. Ed Markey marches with core Dem voters - make believe characters from PBS. Posted by Hello

The usual wacko crowd has sent a letter to the president asking him to sack Ken Tomlinson as head of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Tomlinson’s crime against humanity was to appoint and ombudsman to insure that guests that appear on National Public Radio and the Public Broadcast System represent a wide range of political views. I think the wackos have stumbled upon something this time. Tomlinson should be sacked. But only after everyone associated with the CPB has been sacked, the office equipment sold and the entire waste of taxpayer money shut down.

CPB was founded in 1967 by congress during the era of the big three networks. The CPB created NPR and PBS in 1969 to distribute their products. The whole setup was ostensibly established to allow some local control over the airwaves and serve as an outlet for alternative programming that didn’t have to be reliant on commercial appeal. So we got a long line of programming that nobody watched – but claimed they did at cocktail parties, like “Oh, Ed and I just love Masterpiece Theater.” What actually happened was Ed and Mabel fell asleep together on the couch during one episode because it was soooooo insufferably boring. The whole CPB scam was set up to run off of viewer contributions and a small stipend from federal, state and local governments.

CPB has a budget of $2.3 billion dollars. Its website claims that the largest portion of that budget, $609,210,000 or 26% comes from member contributions. However when federal ($362,809,000 or 16%) state ($317,482,000 or 14%) and local ($56,263,000 or 2.4%) tax “contributions” are added together the biggest contributor to the CPB is…drum roll please…you the American taxpayer. That’s right Mr. & Mrs. America, you are paying Bill Moyer to trash your own country.

One bright guy from Accuracy in Media recently likened CPB to a 38 year old guy still living in his mom and dad’s basement. It’s time the 38 year old got out of the basement and started to make it on his own, he said. He is, of course, right. Whatever utility CPB once had, and I doubt it ever had any, that utility has long since passed. In the age of countless cable tv and radio outlets, anyone with an opinion – even unwatchable dopes like Ron – gee I’m glad my dad was president – Reagan and Keith – could I be any more arrogant, condescending, flip and obtuse – Olbermann have an outlet.

So the Dems are right on this one. Hey, a broken clock is right twice a day – unless its one of those neat military clocks that has 24 hours on it then it’s only right once. Give Tomlinson his two week notice. Tell him to shut it down. Turn out the lights. If we ever needed CPB, we don’t need it anymore.

Proof positive that no one associated with the Bush administration is safe from Dem whining and criticism, Joe Biden today demanded the Laura Bush step down as First Lady. “She’s a partisan hack.” Biden moaned. “We just don’t need that kind of thing while I’m trying to bring this nation together….in a hatred of President Bush.”
